Based on David Hepworth’s Sunday Times Bestseller book 1971 - Never a Dull Moment: Rock's Golden Year this 8×60 documentary series explores a year of musical innovation and rebirth fuelled by the political and cultural upheaval of the time. Stars reached new heights, fresh talent exploded onto the scene, and boundaries expanded like never before in spite of the tumultuous political and social backdrop.

With such a wealth of archive footage forming the bedrock of this series – and no contemporary talking head shots – the challenge was to create an extensive package of graphic elements that were indistinguishable from the original footage – truly having that ‘burnt-in’ feel.

This approach required particular sensitivity with the series device of featuring key lyrics animating on screen to reinforce the importance of the words. This required extensive typographic research and drew heavy inspiration from the ITC type foundry that set the typographic mood of the early 70s.
